In memory

A number to call, for everyone who loved them.

The Angel Line is a phone number family and friends can call to share a memory, a story or a message about someone who has died. Nobody answers. Every message is recorded, written out, and kept for the family.

Callers can use any phone, even a landline. No app to download.

How it works

Share the number, and people call when they’re ready.

  1. Set it up

Tell us their name, and who in the family looks after the Line. Then call it once to hear how it says their name, and change the spelling until it sounds right.

  2. Share the number

Print cards for the service, or share a link in an obituary or a post. The link opens a page of questions people can start from.

  3. People call and leave a message

Each caller hears who the Line is for and presses 1 to agree before anything is recorded. Nobody answers. They speak after the tone.

  4. The family hears it first

Each message waits for the person who looks after the Line. Only the messages they approve reach the rest of the family and the book.

What comes with it

Every message kept, and a book of them.

One archive

Every message, dated and kept in one place: the recording, and the words written out.

Written out

Every message comes with a transcript, so the family can read it as well as hear it.

The family decides

Nobody else hears a message until the person who looks after the Line approves it. They can keep any message private, or delete it.

Share and download

Family you add can listen and download while the Line takes calls and for 90 days after. What you download is yours to keep.

The book

A book of the messages the family approves, with “In memory of” and their name on the cover, to download as often as you like. Each message has its own code in the margin, linked to its recording.

Questions

What families ask.

Does anyone answer?

No. Nobody answers. Callers hear who the Line is for, press 1 to agree, and speak after the tone.

Do callers agree to be recorded?

Yes, every caller, on every call. The Line tells them their message will be kept for the family, and may be shared with others who loved them and included in a book. Nothing is recorded unless they press 1.

Who hears the messages?

First, only the person who looks after the Line. They choose which messages the rest of the family can hear and which go in the book. A message they keep private stays with them.

Can I set one up for another family?

Yes. After checkout, we ask whose Line it is and who in their family looks after it. That person reviews the messages.

How long does it take calls?

For a year from the day it’s bought. Before the year ends, we email the person who looks after it, in case they’d like another year. Nothing is charged unless they choose it.

What happens after the year?

The Line stops taking calls. The family can still listen and download for 90 days after it closes, and what you download is yours to keep.

Is anything mailed?

No. You print the cards yourself, as many as you need, and share the link wherever you like.

Does it work on a landline?

Yes. Callers can use any phone. There is no app to download.

A place for every memory of them.
